Maternity Look Book

Posted by Madeleine Clark on

I thought seeing as I'm pregnant and this is a stage in life I am currently at, it would be a nice idea to share some of my maternity looks. Not all of the clothes in this post are Lazy Gurl, however I have used lots of our accessories and will create a separate blog post for my accessories.

When I fell pregnant I gained weight really quickly. I had a little bump from 7 weeks. I grew out of a lot of my clothes fast and it was a real shock to my system along with feeling poorly and having morning sickness for the first 15 weeks! So if my experience of putting together a whole new wardrobe of clothes fast helps someone else on their journey then that's all I want to achieve from this.

Every pregnancy is different. I also learned this pretty quickly when seeking advice so you have to just do what feels right to you.

For example I couldn't stand having anything on my waist. I stopped wearing jeans and I bought some maternity leggings. These were the best purchase. I also prefer over the bump as apposed to under the bump as I find I need to pee a lot so I don't want a waist band pressing on my bladder as well as a baby. My next look book will focus on casual styles.

2020 has turned out to be a completely different year to what we all had planned! I was invited to 5 weddings, a christening, 30th birthdays and we were planning a baby moon too. Obviously none of this is now happening. But earlier in the year I was thinking how am I going to plan outfits for all of these occasions. I started browsing the maternity collections on websites. And boy can maternity clothes be expensive considering you wont be wearing them all that long! So my first look is one that can be dressed up or dressed down and it will fit you before, during and after pregnancy, so its not a waste of money.

This is one of our own designs 'The Olivia Skirt' here I have dressed it down with a cropped sweater that sits above my bump. you can purchase this from Bershka. I would recommend wrap skirts in general we have lovely range on our website of Mia and Olivia skirts which are all designed and made by us here in North East England. Wrap skirts are comfy as you can tie them as tight or loose as you need. To see this style in action go to our Instagram and view the Look Book Highlight Reel.

This is a maternity dress from Asos. It's a stretch fabrc and really comfortable. I purchased this dress in the sale. I would reccommend trawling through the sales as you will pay much better prices and there are still lots of lovely styles to choose from. I would wear this for a Christening or Birthday Party or BBQ Party.

This is another dress from the Asos sale. Dusky pink with beading. I love the shape and detail of this dress. This is a lovely style to wear to a wedding. paired with our pearl headband and pearl earrings to match the beading. Another perk of this dress it shows off my free boob job!

Perfect for a day at seaside. Or a BBQ. This dress screams Whitby & Brighton. Pair with white pumps or sandals. I've also paired it with our navy velvet alice band, oval locket & heart hooped earrings. The Bracelet I am wearing is a 'mummy to be' bracelet with a heart and a small heart on the heart charm. My best friend bought me this for Mothers day. She is so thoughtful. Locally you can get these from 'Cloud Cuckoo' a little home & gift boutique shop in Yarm. Here is a close up of the bracelet.

This isn't a maternity dress. It's a cute Superdry dress I already had. It has an elasticated back which is why it still fits so this would be another good style dress to buy so that you can still wear it before during and after pregnancy. Again I paired it with my cropped sweater. This is lovely for a casual weekend or even just chilling in the house and in the garden on a warm spring day. Which is ofcourse all I do lately so this is a typical go to look for me.

Ok so that completes the first post of Look books. I really tried to style things that feel like me. I think when so many other things are changing its important to keep your identity. Getting up on morning and choosing my outfit is how I start my day so its nice to continue enjoying that through this strange and wonderful journey they call pregnancy.

I hope this has given other mamas to be a little inspiration.

Stay safe everyone
Leiney xoxo
